MTV featured New Look Laser Tattoo Removal last night on its reality show True Life. The episode was call “I Hate My Tattoo,” and New Look’s Family Nurse Practitioner Lynette Kennedy was seen giving a consultation to a patient wanting tattoo removal. It showed an actual laser tattoo removal procedure as well. This is a great way to learn more about tattoo removal; how wide-spread it is, how important it can be in people’s lives, and how easy it is. The next showing of the episode will be on Wednesday, Sept 9th at 7PM. It will also eventually be posted on MTV’s webpage and we will post a link to make it easier to access.

Can you remove an entire tattoo? What if I only want a small portion removed?

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

We can remove your entire tattoo. Some colors are easier to remove than others but given enough treatments we entire tattoos be removed every day. Take a look at our before and after pictures to get an idea of what our laser can do for you.

What if I only want a portion of my tattoo removed? That is not a problem. We often have clients that only want lettering removed from their tattoo or want certain colors removed. We can do that. There is actually an example of someone who wanted certain colors removed from his tattoo on our before and after page that you should take a look at.

Remember black and red are the easiest colors to remove 100% of the way and green and blue are the hardest and may never remove completely but will certainly be faded. Come in for a complimentary consultation and we can give you a good estimate on how many treatments it will take to remove your tattoo and how well the treatment will work for you.

How Does a Tattoo Removal Laser Remove Your Ink?

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

Tattoo removal lasers work by directing specific wavelengths of light towards a tattoo. The ink in a tattoo absorbs certain wavelengths of light that fits its absorption pattern. Here’s an example of how color really works – when light shines upon a red apple, what colors are reflected and what colors are absorbed? All colors are absorbed except red, which is reflected and seen by the viewer. With a tattoo removal laser, wavelengths that are absorbed well by tattoo ink (and less so by things in the skin that we want to ignore) are used for certain colors – whether the tattoo ink be green, red, black, purple, or orange. When the absorption occurs, the tattoo ink heats up – imagine your body absorbing the sunlight and feeling warmer. Because of the extremely fast pulse of a tattoo removal laser – several billionths of a second – the tattoo ink heats up very quickly, causing it to shatter.

Once the ink is shattered it is easier for your body to remove it – like it would any other foreign particle. It takes a number of sessions to remove tattoos, but we can remove most colors of tattoo ink here at New Look Laser Tattoo Removal, the specialist in laser tattoo removal in Austin, Texas.

Austin Laser Tattoo Removal Questions

Monday, December 29th, 2008

Men and women looking to remove a tattoo in Austin, Texas likely have many questions about the process of laser tattoo removal. Here are a few common questions (and their answers!):

(1) Does it work? For most tattoos, laser tattoo removal can remove the ink in your tattoo almost completely. Commons colors that can be removed completely include red, black, orange, purple, brown, yellow, and several other colors. Blue and green are the most difficult colors to remove, and laser tattoo removal may be able to fade these colors, but they are very difficult to remove completely.

(2) How long does it take? Laser tattoo removal at New Look’s Austin clinic will take several sessions. Laser tattoo removal isn’t an overnight procedure. Normally patients will wait 4-6 weeks between sessions for the ink that has been broken up by the laser to be flushed away by your body.

(3) How does the tattoo removal laser work? New Look’s Austin tattoo removal clinic uses a special laser designed exclusively for laser tattoo removal. The laser uses precise wavelengths of light that are absorbed by the ink in your tattoo. When the ink absorbs this energy, it causes it to shatter, and allows your body to flush away the remnants over several weeks.

Laser Safety Part One

Monday, December 1st, 2008

Austin tattoo removal clinic New Look places a special emphasis on laser safety in our clinic. Lasers present a range of hazards that are easily managed and prevented by simple precautions, including safety goggles, keeping doors closed while the laser is in operation, and only operating the laser when the practitioner and patients are ready and in position.

Lasers are categorized into 4 classes according to their potential to cause biological damage. The parameters that determine which class a laser is placed includes the following:

- cross-sectional area of the laser beam at the point of interest
- exposure duration
- radiation wavelength
- output energy or power of the laser

The lasers used for laser tattoo removal are Class 4 lasers – with both direct and reflected radiation hazards. In tomorrow’s post we’ll discuss in depth the steps we take to protect our patients and staff from laser exposure.

Answers to Tattoo Removal Quiz

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

Here are the answers to yesterday’s tattoo removal quiz for our Austin patients:

(1) Blue and Green are the two most difficult colors of tattoo ink to treat.

(2) Q-switching is a technique by which a laser can be made to produce a pulsed output beam. The technique allows the production of light pulses with extremely high peak power, much higher than would be produced by the same laser if it were operating in a continuous wave mode. The tattoo removal lasers used in our Austin tattoo removal clinic operate in a nanosecond (billionth of a second) range.

(3) The ruby laser came first – it was first operated in 1960. The carbon dioxide laser was first used in 1964.

(4) Nd:YAG stands for Neodymium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet. This crystal is used as the lasing medium for solid-state lasers (including tattoo removal lasers).

(5) If a 1064nm wavelength is “frequency-doubled), a 532nm wavelength will result. Frequently is inversely related to wavelength, so a doubled frequency would be 50% of wavelength (so 1064 to 532 vs. 1064 to 2128nm).

Thanks for those of you who participated in our Austin tattoo removal quiz.
